Okay, this is officially the most depressed I have been in years. The doctor says I have a "superbug." What I have learned from over one week in isolation, three antibiotics, hydocodone, a shot of cortozone to the butt, and delirium is this. #1: In the end, we are all utterly alone. #2: Never underestimate what you have in just feeling "normal," whatever your version of it is. #3: Pleasant surprises will come from those you least expect. Being forced to stop and stare at the ceiling for hours on end makes you, well ... stop and think. There are worse things than lying in bed while spring billows outside your window, day after day after day, and you listen to your neighbors laughing outside in the sunshine, as the breeze rolls into your dismal room while your friends are all out surfing, and everything you try to eat tastes like lighter fluid.
