On the second day of spring break I decided I would will it so. There will be waves today! Called the reports early. One sounded demoralizing. The other... wait a sec... did I hear something at eleven seconds? I was in the car and at the pier in two songs.
It was small, but clean, light offshore winds, and hey... look at that little wave breaking on the north side! I thought it might be an illusion, so I watched it. Andy was calling then, and I told him that I thought it might actually be ridable. I'm going out, I said. I am so over this waiting. I have got to get in the water. He said he was putting on the coffee, and he would be right there.
I paddled out alone, wondering if it would be a joke on me kinda day. Okay, that first one was kinda fun, so I went for another. The next thing I see are two dolphin trying to ride a wave a few feet beyond me! My day was made with that. Their fins cutting through the green water, as they rode the energy, was enough to make me smile and say it was worth the paddle out. I caught a few more, and it started breaking out a bit farther. Interesting. Then I see Andy, paddling out on the Robert August. We had some fun, talking about his kayak adventures yesterday, and my luck missing the bike ride that resulted in 3 Sundogs getting injured.
Something was telling me not to go on that ride.
Dodged another bullet there. So, we talked about boards, and he had some excellent views on the subject of board technology that made me realize, once more, just how insightful and brilliant that skillet licker is. We had some fun, and it changed the entire day.
At work I was so happy, and energized. Karen and I had fun serving up good food, and talking, while her mom helped us above and beyond by doing the dishes. We paid her in cupcakes, the ones that kids kept coming in and squealing over, making us laugh. And it was good.
