How can it be that the waves seem smaller, and with less punch, when the buoys are bigger? And what is with the water clarity? And, the temperature? It's August, and it's 72 degrees out there! Colby called from Los Angeles last night and had just returned from a jump in the ocean and the Pacific Ocean is the exact same temperature as here. Is it global warming? La Nina?
Some guy in the lineup tried to tell me that it was all the rain we have had this last week, but I'm not buying it. That week we had solid rainfall non-stop (while I was TRYING to move into my new apartment), the water was green, genius. I just nodded. Sure, sure.
Karen paddled out with me today! That made it fun. It wasn't as good as yesterday, no tubes, but there were some decent ones, and she said it was better than where they had been surfing yesterday in the state park. It seemed more crowded today, too. But, it was not a stoker to walk over the dunes and see those brown, wimpy lines trying to break under a cloudy sky. But hey, it's summer, and the fact that we have rideable waves... well, I will shut up now.
