Repent, Sinner!

Okay, I guess it's payback for yesterday. I spent all day looking for the best waves, and got only a taste. The plan to go into the park early was not so good, really. Andy stayed at Matanzas, and it turned out to be pretty good. Karen and I caught a few in the park, but the sandbars were not liking the outgoing tide. We spent our time paddling from just past the entrance of the state park to the pier, and every time a good one came to me it seemed Steve Borema was there with that ten foot long barge dropping in with me just watching. Oh, I caught a few fun ones, but after yesterday's session at Middles, it seemed almost boring. So, after Karen left to go to work, I decided to ride the bike up to Middles to relive yesterday. Problem was, the tide was still going out, and when I got there, it was weak and not at all what I had hoped for. I sat out there with it all to myself pretty much, but the waves would rear up and then back down, wimpy, only teasing me. So, after an hour of this, with only one wave that actually broke right, and a searing leg cramp, owwww! I decided it wasn't worth roasting in the noon day sun and paddled in. I saw Andy, Deb, and Ryan on their bikes as I left. They were so adorable, riding out together for a family day at the beach. I was glum, full of pathos about how lame it was. Andy was optimistic. I should have listened to him and stayed. Turns out as soon as the tide turned, it turned into paradise and he scored it pretty much all to himself. As if this wasn't bad enough, I had to listen to Bob go on and on about how great Crossovers was at the same moment I was pedaling out of the park only thinking about what I might have for lunch. Arggh! Is this my penance for skipping out on work yesterday? I didn't even check Crossovers because it was Saturday, and well, if there were 50 people out there yesterday, there would be 150 out today, a Saturday, right? Wrong. Bob said it was just him and Gabe sharing waves on the outside, with 9 Barnies on the inside. I guess everyone thought It would be crowded like I did. So, there I was, at the very moment Bob and Andy were cutting back and smacking the lip, sitting at Sherry's, watching Karen make sandwiches, telling her not to worry, that she hadn't missed a thing when she left for work.
