Surfing with Andy after work...

Andy told me that someone took this picture of me this afternoon. So here is what the pier looked like today!

It sure was worth it today. The swell picked up, and as soon as I could get out the door at work I was at the pier. Andy pulled up right after I did this afternoon. We paddled out, the wind so light you almost couldn't tell which way it was blowing. I knew it was going to be fun. It was big enough, five feet at fifteen seconds, and the intervals so long, that it was almost guaranteed. You could see the lines coming in, distinct and long, and we were out there within minutes. We were all alone for the first fifteen minutes or so. Andy got one right away that had him laughing as he paddled all the way back outside. He always seems to do this. He paddles out, and instantly gets the best wave of the day.

We were stoked! It hadn't looked as good from the beach as it was looking as we sat there, outside the pier. The rights were walling up nice and smooth, about head high, and even though it was cold, it wasn't hand cramping. The clouds even parted for a bit. The water had come up one degree to 57, too. Woo-hoo! I did get an ice cream headache after one set unloaded on me as I was paddling back out. But, like I said, it was worth it today.

Soon, a few more guys paddled out. Andy knew one of them, a guy who had just gotten back from Puerto Rico. He had caught it about the same as we had. It was a good crowd, everyone was sharing waves. My last one was my biggest, and longest. When I came in Karen was standing there, smiling, saying she had seen it. By then the wind was coming up, and it looked like a different day.
