Well, for being such an anti-consumer, it was barely 24 hours before I was in the surf shop stroking the rails of anything that looked remotely like that dang placebo I rode yesterday.
This is absolutely the last board I am buying for a long, long time. Absolutely, I say!
I was embarrassed, wiping the drool from my lips as I impatiently waited for Dave to put on the tail pad. He said he'd do it, after all, he said, he knew me and said I would just slap it on. But I challenged him. That's the old me, I said. I showed him the most excellent job I had done on the Ricky Carroll. He agreed, admiring its uncanny placement. Then he put in the fins, attached a new leash, and you would think there were waves or something from the way I was pacing. He gave me some new Rob Machado environmentally sensitive wax, some magazines ... and the 5' 7" Firewire Dominator was finally mine!
And now, reality. The forecast calls for days and days of onshore winds, as the cool grey days of early winter settle in upon us...
